A content management system for large and complex websites. Especially suitable when many editors are involved, multiple languages are used, or granular access rights and workflows are required. TYPO3 is very flexible and stable, but requires more training and maintenance than WordPress . Sometimes too much for smaller projects, but often just right for large structures.

TYPO3 is designed for large structures: many editors, tiered access rights, multiple languages, strict approval processes. Where these requirements exist, it demonstrates its strengths. Where they are lacking, you pay for unnecessary complexity.

As a rule of thumb: TYPO3 becomes interesting starting at around 500 pages, three or more languages, and separate editorial roles. Below that, WordPress is usually the more pragmatic approach, not least because the learning curve is shorter and extensions are more affordable. Version planning is crucial with TYPO3: Major versions have fixed maintenance periods, so a major upgrade needs to be factored in.
