WordPress is the pragmatic choice for the vast majority of company websites: widespread use, many experts, and countless extensions. The price of this widespread use is attention from the wrong side. Automated attacks specifically target known vulnerabilities.

This doesn't cause any concern, but it does create a maintenance obligation: keep the core, theme, and extensions up to date; delete unused extensions instead of just disabling them; and secure the login area. To give you an idea of the scale: a typical installation sees between 50 and several hundred automatic login attempts daily. With daily updates and server-side blocking, this isn't an issue.
