Uptime
Uptime refers to the percentage of time a website is accessible. Almost every hosting provider advertises with an impressive-looking figure. However, when you convert it to downtime, the picture changes.
99 percent sounds good, but it translates to roughly three days of downtime per year. 99,9 percent is almost nine hours, and 99,99 percent is still 53 minutes. The difference between two and three nines, therefore, determines whether your shop is offline for a workday or just a coffee break.
It is also crucial to consider what the provider actually includes in their calculations. Planned maintenance windows are often excluded, as are disruptions that only affect individual customers.
The information only becomes reliable through independent monitoring. An external service that checks your site every minute reports outages regardless of the hosting provider and provides evidence in case of a dispute.
