domain authority

SEO & GEO

Domain Authority (DA) is a metric developed by the software company Moz on a scale of 0 to 100, which assesses how well a domain can rank in search results.

A machine learning model calculates the value from more than 40 factors, primarily the number and quality of backlinks, as well as the age and trustworthiness of a domain. It's important to know that Domain Names (DA) is not a Google metric and does not influence Google's ranking system; rather, it serves as a rough benchmark for comparing domains. Furthermore, the scale is logarithmic, meaning the jump from 30 to 40 is less significant than the jump from 70 to 80.

Example: A regional provider with a DA of 18 compares itself to a nationwide competitor with a DA of 52. The value shows that the competitor has a significantly stronger backlink profile, but says nothing about the actual position in a specific search query in Düsseldorf, where local relevance often carries more weight.

Use Domain Authority as a rough guide for link building and competitor analysis, but not as a goal in itself. Relevant content, thematic backlinks, and a sound technical foundation are more important than a high DA score.
