Without DNS, you'd have to memorize strings of numbers for every website. When you move your domain , the DNS records are reset. It can take several hours for these changes to propagate everywhere.
The Domain Name System translates names into addresses. Without this translation, you'd have to remember strings of numbers instead of genloc.network. Address resolution is the very first step of every page request and happens before even a single byte of your website is sent.
It costs measurable time: Resolving an unknown domain takes between 20 and 120 milliseconds, depending on the provider. That sounds like a small amount, but it adds up when a website retrieves fonts, scripts, and images from four different external addresses. Four additional resolutions quickly add up to half a second. That's precisely why we host our fonts and scripts on the same domain as the website.
