Breadcrumb navigation is a secondary navigation aid on websites that displays the path from the homepage to the current page as clickable links, e.g., Home > Category > Product. In web design, it improves usability and reduces bounce rates; in SEO , it helps search engines understand the site structure.

Breadcrumb navigation shows where you are in the website's structure and offers a way back to the top. It is particularly helpful on deeply nested pages, such as product ranges or glossaries with many terms.

It has a second, often overlooked benefit: When marked up with structured data, Google replaces the bare address in the search results with the readable path. Instead of a 60-character address, it then displays "Homepage," "Services," or "High-Speed Hosting." With the same ranking position, this makes a noticeable difference in the click-through rate, often in the range of 5 to 10 percent in analyses.
